URANUS IN PISCES

When planets enter new signs, astrologers get excited! There are drum rolls and articles written full of anticipation and dread! In March 2003, , Uranus entered the tropical sign of Pisces for the first time in 84 years and stays there until 2011. Most of us have never lived through Uranus in Pisces. And, unless we read for 80 and 90 year old clients, we’ve never see a Uranus return in person to ask questions about what happened.

To understand the future, astrologers look back at past configurations and combine them with upcoming planetary positions ~ particularly those of the outer planets. Think of the universe as a beautiful wheel of life or mandala of simultaneous stories beginning, unfolding or ending. The planets play roles described by their signs. Energies or aspects the planets make describe the stories of the sky. Sometimes the stories started long before we began watching the play. Other times, the stories start as we are watching. We get to figure out the stories, piecing them together as the play unfolds. We remember back in time to when the seeds were planted to understand the crops being harvested and what the story means. By understanding the implications of actions taken or not taken, we learn and grow. Literally, to every thing, turn, turn, turn, there is a season.

We “know” from books what Uranus in Pisces “means” but what will actually happen? How will Uranus in Pisces appear in our lives, family, friends, clients, country, and the world? Below are four approaches to understand Uranus in Pisces.

First, start with key words. A fun way to get your mind moving in a Uranus-Pisces mode is to open your favorite rulership book. Write words from the planet Uranus and the sign Pisces on slips of paper. Pick one slip from each pile and record the word combinations: abnormal amphetamines, cult blackmail, crusade religious, electric welfare, lightening alcohol, ladder hospitalizations, horoscope karma, crazy shoes, turbulent deportation, astral projection psychic fairs, satellite wreck, electrical glaucoma, vegetarian occult society, erosion secret, mineral spring parasites, freedom prayer, vortex crime, pervert impairment, navigator ESP drugs, wrinkles dissolved, labor union disintegration, conglomeration hidden vices, rebellion stigma, hippopotamus exit, and typhoon movie. It is a wonderful way to expand your consciousness.

Second, remember history repeats itself. Look back to see what happened as something similar occurs. For example, Prohibition of alcohol in the roaring 20s resulted in private stills cooking alcohol in the woods, hidden taverns called speakeasies, bootleggers and permanent wood alcohol brain damage ~ all Uranus/Pisces words. Now, the growing epidemic in teenagers smoking crystal meth, an Uranus/Pisces named drug and addiction, complete with Internet instructions on how to cook it using drugstore available ingredients at home. Smoking crystal meth can cause permanent mental psychosis echoing wood alcohol’s damage in the 1920s. It will probably be the next Prohibition.

Third, understand the aspects Uranus in Pisces will make. Take any chart and follow along.

Locate the Pisces house(s) where the Uranus transit takes place. Watch that house start to rock, roll and dissolve as the planet of chaos enters Neptune’s sign. Uranus will join all the Pisces planets in the chart, symbolizing a balsamic phase ending and a new moon beginning. Look to see the houses ruled by the planets to answer the following questions ~ Where are you sacrificing your self? Taking care of other people? Addicted? It’s time to free the chains that bind!

There will be a crisis-of-confidence (opening square), requiring action for all the Sagittarius planets. When Uranus was last in Sagittarius, a new cycle started (between November 1981 and December 1988). IBM sold millions of personal computers. The ability to access libraries of higher knowledge reached masses of people, completely freeing and transforming work and knowledge. What was going on in your life then? How will you use the wisdom and knowledge gained about freedom back in the 1980s to change your life?

Uranus in Pisces will separate from each Virgo planet as it comes to oppose them. When Uranus was in Virgo from August 1962 to June of 1969, the rebellion of the 60s occurred ~ freedom from being a good virginal girl to using birth control, divorce, free love, rock and roll. We get to see if all the freedom from structure still works for us.

The closing square of Uranus-Pisces to Gemini allows Gemini planets to consolidate their learning. How do you feel about your siblings, schools, libraries, neighborhood, writing, and post office? Time to integrate or change the lessons learned. Uranus traveled through Gemini from July 1941 to June 1949, corresponding to the years of NATO and the United Nations. These alliances are facing a psychologically based action crisis.

Inconjuncts are stress, stress, and more stress. As Uranus moves through Pisces, it will inconjunct and manifest as physical health issues for planets in the chart in Leo and psychological health issues for planets in Libra. Are we the king? Is diplomacy useless?

There are nice aspects too! The Scorpio and Cancer planets get a lovely opening or closing trine. The harvest is here! The gifts of the planets in those signs are hanging on the tree. The houses ruled by planets in water signs are bursting with energy. Watch for abundance, but remember to push the energy as trines can be lazy.

Fourth and finally, look forward in time to see where the other outer planets travel while Uranus is in Pisces. Jupiter moves from Leo to Aries, a locomotive that includes all houses above the horizon. The last Jupiter/Uranus conjunction was in February 1997 (at 5:56 Aquarius). As Jupiter now zooms from the “full moon” of that conjunction to rejoin Uranus at 0 Aries (and the last degrees of Pisces) in 2011, we’ll experience a ripening of the original 1997 conjunction. In your chart, what house was the Aquarius conjunction in? What planets are located between 4 and 7 degrees so they resonate as Jupiter visits eight zodiac signs before rejoining?

Saturn’s journey is from Gemini to the middle of Libra, includes the entire 2nd quadrant, and involves the sibling, neighborhood, home, creative, work and partnership houses in the world chart ~ below the horizon and hidden from view. Saturn and Uranus last joined in 1988 at the last degrees of Sagittarius. We are living through the opposition to 1988 now. In any chart, what house was the Sagittarius conjunction located in? What planets are located between 26 and 30 degrees to resonate to the coming Scorpio type inconjunct, closing trine, closing square, closing sextile? The Soviet Block broke up, the Berlin Wall fell, and the face of Europe changed on the conjunction after 1988. We are seeing the results of that break up now.

Neptune travels through Aquarius while Pluto goes through the rest of Sagittarius and into 7 degrees of Capricorn. Neptune and Pluto are in a supportive sextile with each other the entire time Uranus is in Pisces. Uranus squares Pluto and semi-sextiles Neptune ~ stress, stress and more stress. The teenage super power will be causing problems. Or the terrorists will be causing problems. Or both will be causing problems. Neptune and Uranus will be in mutual reception. The teenage superpower is going to get drunk, be alienated and party hearty. The terrorists are going to have religious fervor, explode themselves and form a community. Pluto, in the form of foreigners, will be powerful yet supportive. Pluto in the form of foreign adventurism and exploration will be destructive. Pluto in the form of religious doctrine will be controlling.

We aren’t going to know how it turns out until we’ve lived through it. Time marches on. In the meantime, live your life. Hug someone you love. Remember to laugh.
